Hyderabad: A senior citizen was arrested by the Chaderghat police on Thursday on charges of stabbing his elder sister to death and inflicting stab wounds on his elder brother at Old Malakpet after an argument over their mother’s pension.
Police said the accused, identified as J Madan Rao, 63, lives in his parents’ home with four of his siblings: Lakshmi, 68, Sudarshan Rao, 70, Surekha, 65, and Sumitra, 67, along with their mother Anasuya Devi who is in her 90s.
According to Sudarshan Rao, their late father, Raghupathi Rao, worked in the army and railways. “My mother gets my father’s family pension, and Madan was harassing us, demanding the pension amount. During an argument over the pension money on Wednesday, he attacked me and my sister Lakshmi with a knife,” Sudarshan said in his complaint.
“The siblings were at loggerheads over sharing of the pension money. Madan had an argument with his elder siblings at around 9.30 pm on Wednesday. During the argument, he went to the kitchen, picked up a knife, and attacked two of his elder siblings. Lakshmi suffered multiple stab injuries and collapsed on the spot. Sudarshan also sustained stab injuries in the assault,” Chaderghat Inspector M Raju said.
After the assault, the accused fled from the house, and other family members rushed the two victims to a nearby hospital. “Lakshmi was declared dead at the hospital, and Sudarshan is undergoing treatment. His condition is stable,” DCP South East Zone Patil Kantilal Subhash said.
On the complaint of Sudarshan, a case was registered against Madan under sections 103 (1) (murder) and 109 (attempt to murder) of the BNS on Thursday. Police arrested Madan near his house on Thursday. “We have arrested the accused, and he will be produced before the court for judicial remand on Friday,” the DCP said.
Lakshmi’s body was handed over to her family after post-mortem on Thursday.
