Dhyan Sreenivasan’s ‘Detective Ujjwalan’ set for May 2025 release

Will Dhyan Sreenivasan make his massive comeback this year? Well, the much-awaited comedy-investigation thriller ‘Detective Ujjwalan’ is all set to release globally on May 16, 2025 and we will get to know the answer soon.Produced by Sophia Paul under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters, the film introduces a brand-new character into the Weekend Cinematic Universe (WCU), which began with the critically acclaimed Minnal Murali.Detective Ujjwalan promises to blend humour and suspense in equal measure. The film marks the directorial debut of Indranil Gopikrishnan and Rahul G, who have also co-written the script. Dhyan Sreenivasan plays the titular role of a quirky local detective, while Siju Wilson appears as CI Shambhu Mahadev, a no-nonsense police officer. The teaser, released earlier, hints at a fast-paced narrative that combines classic whodunit elements with laugh-out-loud moments.Following the success of Minnal Murali, Detective Ujjwalan becomes the latest entry in the growing WCU. The makers are setting the tone for a connected cinematic world driven by strong characters and genre storytelling. With Detective Ujjwalan, Weekend Blockbusters is taking a bold step in expanding their creative universe into investigative comedies.The film also features Kottayam Nazeer, Seema G Nair, Ronnie David, Nihal Nizam, Nirmal Palazhi, and others in key roles. The technical crew includes Prem Akkattu and Shrayanti (cinematography), Ramees RC (music), and Chaman Chacko (editing). With impressive production design by Koyas M and sound design by Sachin Sudhakaran, the film aims to deliver a visually rich and entertaining theatrical experience. On the other hand, Dhyan Sreenivasan’s previous hit was the Vineeth Sreenivasan’s directorial multi-starrer project ‘Varshangalkku Shesham’.
