‘Retro box office collections day 13: Suriya’s film mints Rs 58.67 crores

Suriya and Karthik Subbaraj’s action drama ‘Retro’ is beginning to lose steam at the box office. After an impressive Rs 52.95 crore net collection in its first week, the film has seen a noticeable drop in daily earnings during its second week.

Collections Take a Hit After Strong Opening Week


According to early estimates by the Sacnilk website for day 13 (May 13, 2025), ‘Retro’ collected Rs 53 lakhs, pushing its total India net to Rs 58.67 crore.




Occupancy Drops to Under 20%


On its 13th day, Retro registered an overall Tamil occupancy of 17.90%. The highest turnout was seen during night shows at 21.39%, while morning shows dipped as low as 13.35%. The decline in occupancy is consistent with the box office trend, as the film’s collections have fallen sharply since its second Monday.


Will Retro Hold Steady Through the Week?


Despite its slow second week, ‘Retro’ continues to draw decent attention, especially in Tamil Nadu. However, the drop from Rs 19.25 crore on opening day to Rs 53 lakhs on Day 13 reflects the typical post-weekend dip seen in many theatrical runs. With competition from upcoming releases and declining footfalls, all eyes are on whether ‘Retro’ can sustain itself into its third weekend and inch closer to the Rs 75 crore mark.

ETimes gave a rating of 3 stars for the film and our review read, “Karthik Subbaraj manages to make us overlook all these reservations with sheer filmmaking flair. A 15-minute single-shot sequence that involves song and dance, heated conversation and tense action just makes one want to stand up and applaud. Similarly, an action scene in a bioluminescent sea makes for striking visuals (Shreyaas Krishna is the cinematographer). Then there's Suriya, whose very presence lights up the frames. The actor's performance, too, feels more organic when compared to some of his recent works where there was a certain artifice creeping into the acting. Then, there's Santhosh Narayanan, who delivers foot-tapping numbers and a rousing background score that elevates even the weaker moments.”
