The Winnipeg Jets triumphed over the St. Louis Blues, ending their winning streak and marking a franchise-best 53rd victory. The Winnipeg Jets had their hands full on Monday night against the white-hot Blues from St. Louis, but all the more so since high stakes tend to produce high action. This time, however, the Jets not only avoided serving notice on the NHL's longest winning streak this season but also picked the occasion to carve its own name in franchise history with the win, being the 53rd for the franchise. The mischief at Canada Life Centre was terrific, but Winnipeg's systematic play of well-timed pressure and poise was giving St. Louis little of their own.

Winnipeg Jets outclass St. Louis Blues to tighten grip on the Presidents’ trophy race

In a duel of contenders, the Winnipeg Jets, with a well-rounded team effort, halted a 12-game winning streak from St. Louis. The contest started with both teams tentatively playing rough hockey, with Morgan Barron finally putting his team on the board on a second-period partial breakaway after performing a great defensive play to set it up for himself.

Pavel Buchnevich instantly countered Barron's goal with a slap shot that whizzed under the blocker of Logan Stanley. But the Jets kept their noses to the grindstone. Iafallo rewarded Winnipeg for an aggressive net crash following an incredible Kyle Connor rush that created a big rebound.

Captain Adam Lowry sealed the victory with a goal into the empty net, sending the crowd into an absolute frenzy. The Jets tightened their grip on the Central Division and Western Conference with this win, making them serious contenders for the President's Trophy with only a few games left in the regular season.

On this night, Connor Hellebuyck was typically quiet, tallying a mere 14 shots with just one goal. Once again proving why he is a candidate for the Vezina Trophy, Hellebuyck was stellar. His coach, Scott Arniel, states he admired the four-line group commitment to defense and zone coverage that they played together.
Yet, someone had to put the Blues in their definitive spot. They had become a learned bunch after the good stretch to really pepper the Jets' defenses. Comments from Captain Schenn pinned the task, and another from Jim Montgomery termed the Jets the true measuring stick in the West.

The Winnipeg Jets had to be peaking at that moment. With 53 wins etched in history and command of their own division, attention to the big postseason goal is glaringly obvious. Monday was important for more than the two points- it was a statement.
