Kelly Stafford, wife of NFL quarterback Matthew Stafford, recently shared her thoughts on the growing media attention surrounding the relationship between 73-year-old former Patriots coach Bill Belichick and 24-year-old Jordon Hudson. On her podcast The Morning After, Stafford acknowledged that the couple’s relationship was bound to stir public curiosity due to the significant age gap and Belichick’s high profile. However, she emphasized the need for balance between public interest and personal privacy.
Kelly Stafford acknowledges Jordon Hudson’s awkward interview moment, calls for fairness in relationship criticism
The controversy escalated after Jordon Hudson interrupted Bill Belichick’s interview on CBS Sunday Morning, attempting to redirect a question about their relationship. This move sparked widespread criticism, with many accusing Hudson of being controlling or seeking attention. Kelly Stafford admitted that Hudson’s interruption was awkward and poorly timed, but she also noted that people shouldn’t judge the entire relationship based on one moment.
"Bill Belichick, we never saw him much on social media, and now he's everywhere with her," Stafford said. "So I think there's some responsibility in knowing that, that she knows she's going to be asked questions because their relationship is so public. Honestly, I don't care, I think it's fair to both of them. If she doesn't want to talk about it, they don't have to talk about it."

Stafford pointed out that being a public figure naturally invites scrutiny, especially when the relationship is unconventional. Still, she warned against turning everything into tabloid drama. Using the NFL Draft as an example, she lamented how off-field stories are increasingly stealing the spotlight from athletic achievements. “We’re turning sports into reality TV,” she said, frustrated by how quickly narratives shift from game performance to personal gossip.
"I think the world of sports in general is in a deplorable state. And I understand that these guys aren't just athletes. We know that. But at the same time, they are athletes. Why is everything so damn dramatic?"
Despite online backlash, Hudson and Belichick appear unbothered. Hudson has clapped back at critics on social media, defending their relationship and calling out those who label her a “gold digger.” A former boyfriend of Hudson also came forward in her defense, describing her as intelligent and mature, and calling for the public to respect her choices.
Stafford concluded that while the Belichick-Hudson relationship is, in her words, “fair game” for discussion due to their public profiles, it’s still important to respect boundaries. “You can talk about it, sure but don’t tear people down over it,” she urged. She acknowledged that not everyone would understand or agree with the relationship, but ultimately, it’s their personal life.
