Lewis Hamilton to co-chair 2025 Met Gala, lands Vogue cover with powerful message on Black style

Formula 1 racing sensation Lewis Hamilton keeps pushing boundaries — this time, not on the track, but on the cultural runway. The seven-time world champion graces the cover of Vogue in the lead-up to the 2025 Met Gala, co-chaired by him, Anna Wintour, Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, and A$AP Rocky. The fashion extravaganza, set for May 5, will celebrate Black creativity and craft with the theme ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’.

Lewis Hamilton's style evolution is as dramatic as his driving career. From a modest start in Stevenage, England, to collaborating with big brands such as Tommy Hilfiger and Lululemon, his transformation has been bold and deliberate. In Vogue, he discusses how tight budgets influenced his initial disconnection from fashion. “As a teenager I didn’t have any money for clothes; my family and I spent it all on racing,” he wrote in his Vogue feature. "When I first signed with F1 I was only allowed to wear suits and team kits, and it was horrible. I didn’t feel comfortable, and I didn’t feel like I was able to be myself."
With now 105 F1 victories on his resume and joining Ferrari, Hamilton's flair is now for ageless refinement – the exact same look imitated in his spread in Vogue.
But his Met Gala participation is not solely about style. Hamilton is leveraging his platform to give voice to under-represented voices. Remembering his 2021 attendance, he stated, “I was working with Law Roach, who is a dear friend, and I was like, ‘What if we created a table together where we invite a few up-and-coming Black designers, have them dress some guests, and we all show up together – so it’s about creating space and opportunity?’ And also, I was going to buy the table myself.”
That effort created a broader conversation — and it's one Hamilton is committed to continuing. “If you think about where we are in the world—and particularly in the States, in terms of people pulling back on diversity—I think this Met Gala sends a really strong message that we must continue to celebrate and elevate Black history,” he said.
