AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami announced the party's alliance with the NDA, hailing it as crucial for Tamil Nadu's progress and expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his support. NEW DELHI: AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday hailed the party’s alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) labeling it as a major step toward Tamil Nadu’s progress.
In a post on social media platform X, Palaniswami expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "unwavering support" to the AIADMK. “I extend my gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for his unwavering support to AIADMK . We are honoured to be welcomed into a partnership with NDA . An alliance founded on a shared vision for Tamil Nadu’s progress and prosperity," he said.
Describing it as a "pivotal moment" in the state's political landscape, Palaniswami added to his statement saying, "At this pivotal moment, with visionary guidance of Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji , AIADMK will work closely with NDA allies to realise the aspirations of the people and contribute to his transformative vision."

The renewed partnership between AIADMK and the BJP-led NDA comes as the parties prepare for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, aiming to present a united front.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who confirmed that the two parties, along with other allies, would contest the upcoming elections together as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
According to Shah, the alliance will function under the dual leadership model—Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the NDA at the national level, while Palaniswami will head the state campaign in Tamil Nadu.
Further addressing speculation around alliance conditions, Shah dismissed reports that the AIADMK had made any specific demands, asserting that the decision was reached without any preconditions. He also explained the delay in finalizing the tie-up, stating that both parties wanted to ensure that the alliance would be a permanent and stable one moving forward.
The announcement followed the exit of BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit chief K Annamalai from his post just a day earlier. While emphasizing that alliance decisions rest with the party’s national leadership, he called for unity to avoid splitting the anti-DMK vote in Tamil Nadu’s highly fragmented political landscape.
