Bhopal Police Crime Branch on Tuesday claimed to arrest a drug peddler and seized 10.50 grams of illegal MD (
Mephedrone) powder along with a premium mobile phone worth Rs 3 lakh. A case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.Additional DCP (Crime Branch) Shailendra Singh Chauhan said that the accused, identified as Ankit Verma, 27, a resident of A-Sector, Awadhpuri, was allegedly engaged in the sale of MD powder in large quantities, earning substantial profits.According to the police, a reliable tip-off led to a targeted operation near the Shiv Mandir in front of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) building at MP Nagar.The informer described a man with a dusky complexion, a beard, and tattoos on both wrists, waiting for a customer to deliver MD powder.Acting swiftly, the Crime Branch team cordoned off the area and nabbed the suspect matching the description. Upon search, police recovered a transparent plastic pouch containing a fine white crystalline substance with a pungent odour, identified as MD powder. Additionally, a premium smartphone was found in his possession.The total seizure included 10.50 grams of MD powder and one high-end mobile phone (total approx value Rs 3 lakh).The suspect confessed ownership of the narcotics during interrogation. A case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the accused was presented before the court.Police said that further investigation is underway to uncover the supply network and source of the drugs. The Crime Branch continues to maintain a close watch on illegal drug trafficking activities in the city.
