Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi Movie Review : Pradeep Machiraju headlines a rustic rom-com that loses steam

Critic's Rating: 2.5/5
Review: Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi, directed by Nithin–Bharath, sets up an offbeat premise—a girl born after a 60-boy streak in a village is deemed the key to prosperity, and the village head decides she must marry one of the eligible bachelors. Enter Krishna, an idealistic engineer (Pradeep Machiraju) sent to build sanitation facilities, who unwittingly wins over the village’s ‘golden girl’, Raja Kumari a.k.a. Raja (Deepika Pilli).

What starts as a quirky premise with potential for satire quickly slips into a predictable zone. After a breezy first half filled with harmless comedy and colourful characters, the second half struggles with tonal shifts and uninspired conflicts. The film shines in parts—particularly through its lush, appealing cinematography and situational comedy delivered by Satya and Getup Srinu. But the screenplay feels stretched, the romance undercooked, and the emotional beats predictable. Radhan’s music sounds decent, but the songs often feel forced into the narrative, disrupting the flow instead of elevating it.

While the idea had room for clever commentary on regressive customs and gender roles, the film only scratches the surface, choosing crowd-pleasing clichés over fresh takes.

Watch it for the rural charm, a few laugh-out-loud moments. But if you’re after a memorable rom-com with emotional heft, this one plays it far too safe.
