After DeepSeek, China's ManusAI is here to challenge America's AI supremacy

China's startup Monica introduces ManusAI, the world's first autonomous AI agent. Capable of planning, analyzing, and executing tasks independently, ManusAI outperforms existing models, raising cybersecurity concerns due to its potential misuse. Its achievements on the GAIA benchmark showcase a leap in AI assistant capabilities, challenging American giants OpenAI and Google.
After DeepSeek, China's ManusAI is here to challenge America's AI supremacy
Following the shockwave created by DeepSeek, China has once again made headlines with the launch of ManusAI, an advanced AI agent developed by the Chinese startup Monica. This new AI system is poised to challenge the dominance of American AI giants like OpenAI and Google.

What is ManusAI?

ManusAI, introduced on March 6, 2025, is touted as the world's first fully autonomous AI agent. Unlike traditional AI models that require specific instructions, ManusAI can independently analyse, plan, and execute complex tasks across various domains. From planning a trip to Japan to conducting in-depth stock analysis, ManusAI demonstrates capabilities that go beyond existing AI assistants.
The company posted about the AI agent on X (formerly known as Twitter).

ManusAI: Key features and capabilities

ManusAI's key features include full autonomy, multi-domain capabilities, high-precision personalisation, and real-time operation. The AI agent can perform tasks such as filtering New York properties based on multiple criteria, writing Python programs to calculate budgets, and compiling detailed reports. It can also conduct correlation analysis between stocks with precision and access authoritative data sources via APIs.
On the GAIA benchmark, which evaluates general AI assistants in solving real-world problems, ManusAI has achieved new state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance across all three difficulty levels. The AI agent reportedly outperforms OpenAI and previous leading models, with accuracy rates of 86.5%, 70.1%, and 57.7% at Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3, respectively.

Implications and concerns

While ManusAI's capabilities have garnered significant attention, they also raise concerns about the potential misuse of autonomous AI systems. The ability to operate without human oversight could lead to automated cyber operations, misinformation campaigns, or large-scale surveillance. Cybersecurity experts warn that such AI systems could bypass digital security measures, creating risks for financial systems, government institutions, and global corporations.
The emergence of ManusAI marks a shift from research-driven innovation to real-world deployment of autonomous systems.
